Eagle Rock real estate isn't the only hot happening in the area!
Eagle Rock businesses really stepped out for We Heart Eagle Rock Shop Small the last Saturday of November. There were 38 businesses on the map, all located along our main two commercial streets, Eagle Rock and Colorado Boulevards. Most of these businesses are "Mom and Pop," privately owned shops by people who live right here in Northeast Los Angeles. I visited a few, mostly the new businesses that I hadn't seen before. I was so impressed by the individuality and quality of the shops we are so lucky to have in our community. I started my Christmas shopping today in earnest and found gifts that I wouldn't have thought of if I were just shopping on the Internet--not that you couldn't shop in most of these stores online, but it's so much more inspiring to see items in person.
Dave's Chillin' & Grillin' had jars of a sauce they use and make themselves--who knew that? And they also hosted a pet adoption event in the rear of their cafe. On down Colorado Blvd, I grabbed a sandwich at Milkfarm and picked up a few items that I hadn't known were locally produced until I tried some tastes given to me there.
Check out Junim LA, where Haley makes the clothes that she sells there and also offers jewelry made by local artisans. These clothes are beautifully fashioned out of silk and other delicate fabrics into dresses suitable for those dressy New Year's Eve parties, as well as less dressy occasions. Across the street, Cucapraline - Frenchic features items the owner Yael Bolender has made from Christmas decorations to stationery. In the same building, Window of the Sky is a healing arts treatment space and boutique that seeks to provide a place to build community. They have some wonderful incense that makes the shop smell like Taos, New Mexico. I had a lot of fun at Groove Tree and found all sorts of stocking stuffers there.
I wish I'd had time to go to all the stores, we are so lucky to have them here. But I have the map and many of them I shop at anyway. If you want to see the list of what was open, check out the We Heart Eagle Rock page on Facebook and check them out. And shop at them!
